(Sacramento) – BuildStrong California (BSC), a diverse coalition of stakeholders advocating for a comprehensive approach to disaster preparedness in California, issued the following statement in support of the Wildfire and Forest Resilience Package in the 2021-22 State Budget:
“Californians face extreme disaster risks which require robust, sustainable, and multipronged funding and policy solutions,” said Pamela Williams, BSC Executive Director. “This state budget exemplifies the legislature’s commitment to a comprehensive approach to wildfire related disaster preparedness, mitigation, and resilience.”
“We are particularly emboldened by the investments into resilient forests and landscapes programs, wildfire prevention activities, funding to continue investing in wildfire fuel breaks, and for home and community hardening purposes. We applaud the Governor and leaders in the legislature for taking a smart, serious approach to combating an issue impacting the lives of nearly everyone in the state.”
Working to establish a state framework to prioritize and invest in resilience, BSC distributed a letter to the governor and legislature detailing its strong support for the budget provisions.
